The Florida Department of Education’s Healthy Schools Summer Academy is a professional development opportunity for teachers and administrators of health education and physical education content with special emphasis on other subject area courses with integrated health education benchmarks. This annual event will next take place June 14-15, 2017 in Boca Raton at Palm Beach County Schools' Safe Schools Institute.
Health education and physical education are required instruction for grades K-12. Academy sessions will include information and resources focusing on technology in the classroom, safe and supportive environments, sexual health education, school connectedness, nutrition, tobacco prevention education, physical education assessments and youth risk behavior survey (YRBS). Teachers of all subject areas are encouraged to attend.
The Academy will accommodate up to 300 participants on a first-come, first-serve basis. The registration cost of the academy is $60 per attendee.

Mental Health First Aid Course
The Healthy Schools Summer Academy is offering the Youth Mental Health First Aid course in a concurrent track. Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance abuse disorders in your community. This course will take place the same time as the Academy.
The Academy will provide a boxed lunch on Wednesday and Thursday from Jason's Deli. Healthy refreshments will be provided on both days. If you have dietary restrictions, food allergies or other concerns, please indicated so on your registration form.
When calling to make your sleeping room reservation, please use HSA or Healthy Schools Summer Academy to receive the group rate of $116 per night for a double bed suite. The hotel is accepting reservations in the block until May 13, 2017.
